AJI Indonesia Condemns Israel’s Massacre of Journalists
The Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) Indonesia strongly condemns the killing of more than 170 journalists by the Israeli military since October 2023.
Most recently, the Israeli military carried out a targeted attack on media workers in the Gaza Strip—including a deadly strike near Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza. This tragic incident adds to the long list of systematic violence aimed at journalists working in conflict zones.
These attacks are part of an effort to silence facts, suppress the truth, and stifle independent voices reporting on atrocities and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, amid a blockade and oppression that have lasted for more than 21 months. Israel’s media blockade, which conceals crimes in the region, must be brought to an end immediately.
We express our solidarity with all journalists who bravely uphold the public’s right to accurate and independent information. We also call for full protection for all Palestinian journalists without exception.
We demand that the UN Security Council holds Israel accountable, as the massacre of journalists is part of genocide and the erasure of truth.
In Solidarity,
Nany Afrida
President of AJI
