Behind the Mask of Energy Transition An Anthology of Journalistic Works by Participants of the Third Cohort of the Environmental-Economic Journalism Academy (AJEL)

Indonesia’s energy transition is often wrapped in narratives of being green and sustainable. But on the ground, many projects are creating new problems. Coal power plants are still being built, co-firing programs threaten the environment, and the impacts on local communities are often overlooked.

This book features 21 in-depth reports by journalists from East Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, and Southeast Sulawesi. They bring forward stories rarely covered: how the transition is carried out, who benefits, and who ends up paying the price.

Written by 17 journalists of the Environmental-Economic Journalism Academy (AJEL) Batch 3, with support from AJI Indonesia and Traction Energy Asia, this book is a reminder that energy transition is not just about technology. It is about justice.
